Engage in self-reflection—what are some changes to your identity post cancer?
Cancer survivors often experience changes post-cancer that affect how they see themselves and relate to others:
- Changes to their body and overall appearance
- Loss of the old normal or life as it was prior to cancer
- Feelings of vulnerability and anxiety that cancer could return
- Changes in roles and loss of independence—maybe you were the one everyone relied on and now you need assistance
Consider journaling about these changes, talking with a counselor or participating in a support group to make sense of these changes and define what you are looking for in a partner.
