Open communication with partner is important
Note that couples receive very little training in how to communicate effectively and appropriately with one another
Here is an activity to try:
- Take 3-5 uninterrupted minutes to share your thoughts, feelings, and fears regarding cancer and your intimate relationship.
- After listening, the partner should attempt to state their understanding of what they heard, clarifying until agreement on what was said occurs.
- It is important for both partners to express their concerns and receive responses that validate and confirm what was shared
What does this interaction look like?
