Published on: 12/10/25
After Cancer, Inc. is honored to announce that we have been awarded a 2025 Iowa Cancer Consortium Implementation Grant to develop a comprehensive patient-centered course on understanding and navigating the sexual health and intimacy challenges that can arise after cancer treatment.
This project will create an educational course designed for cancer survivors and their partners. The course will cover:
- Why sexual health is often overlooked in cancer care
- The impact of treatment on intimacy, desire, comfort, and identity
- Communication skills for partners and relationships
- Body image and self-esteem after cancer
- Tools, products, and clinical solutions to mitigate side effects
- Partner guidance, including the transition from caregiver to intimate partner
- Integrative therapies: psychological, physical, nutritional, and mindfulness-based approaches
To ensure the course reflects real patient needs and voices, After Cancer conducted a pilot focus group with cancer survivors. Their insights informed course content and their feedback will be used in the development of the final version estimated to be completed May 2026.
All course materials are independently developed by After Cancer, Inc.
After Cancer is grateful to the Iowa Cancer Consortium for supporting this important work and helping advance comprehensive survivorship care in Iowa and beyond.
